Scrapbooking: Pants in the air!

I had the sketch for this page in my head for quite a while, so when a challenge came up at UKScrappers that fitted what was in my head I decided it was time to get it onto paper.
The challenge was.....
Red white and blue theme
At least two photos
Journalling

I cut a large pair of pants out of red dotty paper, cut holes for the legs & stuck white behind these. I then embossed lines around the waist & leg holes. Having stuck the top and bottom borders onto the background sheets, and stuck the photos down, I could then stick the pants down & cut them in half so in the end the pages could go in my album. I added the title which is based on an old play ground rhyme used for seeing who was going to be "on"
There's a party on the hill would you like to come?
Yes.
Bring your own bread and butter and your own cream bun.
Can't afford it.
Who is your best friend here?
(insert best friends name)
(insert best friends name) will be there,
With her knickers in the air
O-U-T, O-U-T,
O-U-T spells out!

I finished off with the all important journalling, written straight onto the pants, it reads....
I gave Kai a packet of new pants, which he decided to try on .....
all of them,
at the same time,
on his head & his legs!!!!

Scrapbooking: Trampolining

Another UKScrappers challenge (can you tell I'm catching up on a few pages I haven't had chance to blog?)
Use some ribbon.
Use a bit o' bling (bit of bling peeking out from under the letters POLI)
Use green & white (though its pale the background is white & green)
Use stamping (Title letters are stamped onto the bunting)

I used a sketch from The Studio Challenge blog but was too late to enter it into that months challenge, it is a very nice sketch though, you can find it HERE

Scrapbooking: 11th Birthday

Another challenge at UKScrappers, we had to....
Scrap a birthday (Zacks 11th birthday)
Use an old piece of paper (old sheet of gingham)
Use colours to represent weather (Blue paper for blue skies, black paper for storms)
Use at least 3 fonts (4 types of fonts/lettering used)

I made Mario from scrap pieces of paper & card & 2 brads for his buttons.

Scrapbooking: Kai's 1st visit.

I made this layout for a challenge on UKScrappers, we had to...
Scrap about a Male (in this case Kai)
Use more than 2 alphabets.
Use ink (date, yellow edging & red rectangle partially under the photo)
Use rikrak (3 pieces just under the start of the title)

As it was about starting Pre-school I chose to keep to primary colours. The stickers are actually his name tag (school name blurred out) & the sticker he got at the end of the session for being good.

Scrapbooking: Mitten Weather

I used this weeks 52 layouts step by step over at Being Scrappy. It always fascinates me how different pages can look from the original by using different papers & embellishments. These lessons really take out a lot of the work behind the scrapbooking for me, I thoroughly recommend them.

Scrapbooking: Snow much fun!

A quick, yet effective (I think anyway) double page layout. I got 2 pieces of 12x12s that looked similar, cut a third off each & stuck them back on the other sheet giving a subtle variation in the pattern.
I then stuck my photos onto a sheet of lined paper, cut to size and inked the edges in brown.
I added my journalling and used stickers to add the date.
Everything was stuck down before adding a few details & the title in the form of stickers.

Scrapbooking: Stay cool in the pool

I enjoyed using kits last week, this was made up of the May 2012 CCW kit. I love how the blues reflect the water in the pool, and the yellow reflects the heat of the day.
I started off with the bazzil sheets as the background, I then cut around the patterned fancy pants sheets to leave just the swirl patterns. I layered it up with a square of white paper behind each piece, some of the fancy pants border and corner stickers before sticking them down. On top of these I added the photos and rectangles cut out of the fancy pants paper so that each side was mirrored. Finally I stuck on alphabet stickers for the titles, drawing round them in red pen making them stand out more, and used the same red pen to do the journalling.

Scrapbooking: I have a tail

Sorry for the blanked out photos this week folks, normal service shall return shortly. This page is a simple one that has a photo of Kai pretending he's got a tail (no, he hasnt got a real tail), so I went looking for other tails to add to the page. The background paper is covered in peacocks with their beautiful plumes, I stuck the photo down, & then added the title. I inked all the way round the photo & even over some of it to make stand out a bit more before removing the title stickers. I wanted to make "Tail" stand out more so put a fresh letter T and A back on. I added a couple of embossed leaf stickers and different animal stickers with tails showing. The journalling and date were the finishing touches, written on with a teal coloured pen to match the  predominant colour on the page.

Scrapbooking: "Just like Mummy"

I so wish I could safely share the photo on this layout with you, it is sooooooooo funny, almost as funny as my little sister colouring in a Sanitary Towel with red pen when she was little to prove she'd had her first period but thats a page yet to be scrapped. Kai will be so embarrassed by this when he is older but its definitely one of my favourite photos of him, and one of my favourite layouts.

Scrapbooking: Piercing

I used the patterned K&Co paper to inspire the rest of the colours on the page, I kept it simple so that the photos showed up more.
The journalling reads...
"I dont think Kai could quite understand why he couldnt get the belly bar to stay on his tummy button like mine did"
This page has prompted me to make a note that I must do scrap pages on my own piercings as each has its own little story to tell .... fingers crossed I have a photo of my belly bar when I was younger , or rather slimmer, lol.

Sorry about the grey area but as I'm sure you can understand, even images that aren't "rude" can be taken the wrong way and by the wrong people on the internet.

Cards: Alcohol inks & Encaustic Art

We had an arty lesson on the cardmaking course, with chalks, stamps, inks, encaustic art and more to play with, this was the lesson I was most looking forward to & it did not disappoint.

I loved playing with the alcohol inks, dotted onto dabbers along with a blending solution & dabbed onto photo paper or shiney paper.
Once dry I either used it to stamp on or as a background...

These are toppers I created, ready for putting on cards

I embossed some silver card with this one before inking it, I love this embossing folder. I coloured in the digi stamp with promarkers to match the colours on the card & layered it onto black card.

I used this technique again with this card....

...but this time the digi stamp is mounted onto some encaustic art I did and a ribbon I ruffled. I have to admit, I'm not very good at encaustic art yet, though it is only my second time trying it (first time was 8 years ago), I look forward to practising it some more in the future (anyone want to buy me a starter kit, lol).
Trying putting the wax onto an embossed surface, I'm not sure what I'll do with it but I think it looks pretty cool.

Trying the 2 techniques together, first encaustic & then inking. Not yet finished yet, I think a stamped image in the centre in black or similar to complete it.

I would like to enter the purple card into the "Just inspirational challenge" week 33

Scrapbooking: A Hoppy Meet Up

I decided to use this months creative craft world challenge sketch as a starting point for this page, I then went looking through my scrap collection for pinks, whites (to match the majority of bunny ears) and rabbits. The majority of it came from the CCW 2011 July Kit. I left the title slightly ambiguous by using a flower so it could be read as Happy or Hoppy.

The Summer of Colour 2012 #1

Over at Twinkle Twinkle it is the summer of colour! Each week an inspiring ice cream image will be posted, inspiring because all who join in take the colours from that flavour to work with. This weeks was Rainbow Sherbet. This is my FAVOURITE flavour, I usually have it from Millies cookies with blueberry sherbet as well, yummy! The colours however are so NOT me, lol, they are quite scary, bright pink with orange, yellow & a bit of white, even more scary when most of my scrapbooking is done with photos of my lads who themselves usually have very little to do with those colours. I saw it as a challenge & faced it head on & ended up rather pleased with the result.......
A simple layout but I think it shows everything up nicely. The pinks & oranges reflect the heat so much in the photos though the photo of the page doesnt show the vibrance of the papers enough.

Thank you to Carmen for introducing me to this event, & to Kristin for running it.

Scrapology June Challenge

You know when you sometimes see a scrap page & its just perfect, you wouldnt change anything about it, well thats how I felt about this months page on Scrapology by  Rô Phillipson. I hope she doesnt mind but I literally scraplifted everything .... well, everything that I could with what I had in, which was pretty much all the stock she used, yay!
This is the first time I've totally copied a page, so I guess this blog post is showing my skills on scrap lifting!

Challenge links & Front Pages

Thank you so much to everyone who left me links for challenges, I shall be making a list of them in the sidebar shortly so not only can I find them all together easily but so you can have a look as well.

Since thursday I have managed to get 10 pages done, 8 single page layouts & 2 double page layouts. For me this is fairly amazing as I only usually manage to get 2 done a week maximum, it takes me a day to do just one.
My albums are all made up of individual layouts for each event, no theme going through the album except that its in chronological order with the date & journalling on show. I now have about 10 layouts left until I finish my 2010 albums (I've had to split it into 2 albums as just 1 wasnt big enough). With this achievement looming, & for me to finish a year of photos in scrapbook form it will be an achievement, I was wondering what I should have as the first page.  I've tried googling this topic & havent found many articles on it.

Maybe I should have a title page? 2010 made up of random photos from the year.
Maybe a contents page.
A letter giving the highlights of 2010, a bit like those annual round-up letters I get from the odd person at Christmas.
I've heard of writing hopes & dreams for the year ahead, which though a nice idea, doesnt quite work seeing that 2010 has already been & gone.

So how do you organise your albums & what do you have as a first page? I'd love to know.

I'm up for a scrapbook challenge.....

Hello my lovely followers, its been a busy ol' month & I have plenty to show you, just need to find the time & the right state of mind to sit & tell you about it all. I've recently got my mindset back into scrapbooking after a bit of a dry spell & seem to have over done it, lol. I'm running empty when it comes to ideas, I'm trawling the blogs for challenges & was wondering what are YOUR favourite challenge & motivational scrap sites?
Please help me out & leave me some links :)
